Champions at Last
It was a long time coming, but Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks were finally champions.

Highlights from Jason and Dallas' first run to a world championship.

Celebrate a Champion!

After 17 years in the league, Jason Kidd is an NBA champion.

For the days after Dallas defeated the Miami Heat, 4-2, in the NBA Finals, this page was open to fans to express whatever went through their mind about Jason -- recollections about the title run, memories of his career, whatever came to mind.

The page is now closed, but it -- and the comments of those fans who decided to contribute -- will become part of a permanent section of JasonKidd.com dedicated to Jason and the Mavericks' championship season.

My Inspiration

I cant imagine myself watching nba without Kidd. Kidd inspired me a lot not just in basketball but in life for being unselfish and helping others to become a better person. I love you man hope you visit Philippines!!!

Nicest Guy in NBA!

Back midway thru your rookie season ( just after JJ hurt his ankle) I travelled from Australia as a 21yr old to watch my Mavs play and was excited we had drafted you. Then thru a few miracles, Norm Sonju took me under his wing and took me into the locker room. First person i met was you getting some treatment on your ankle. You were the most down to earth person and asked me all the questions!  Ever since that moment you have been the MAN! Devastated when u were traded but kept wishing you would get a Ring. Then coming home to get the Ring, made me unbelievably happy! You deserve it mate and hope you keep playing on!!
I also still have your music single on cassette as well! "What the Kidd did" ? Wasnt bad actually!! :-)

Congrats and Visit

Hi again JKidd! I know I already posted earlier this morning to congratulate you. However, I forgot to mention that I know that I have a slim chance of seeing you in action or in person for that matter because I'm just starting to work and I haven't saved enough money to come and see you live in the US. As one of your biggest fans, kindly consider going here in the Philippines as part of the delegation that the NBA sends every year to meet the league's fans here in our country or maybe as a promotion for Peak's products especially your shoes, which I have been wanting to buy but are not yet available here. In the Philippines, basketball is #1 and I'm sure, many have been wanting to see and meet you in person. Kobe, Tmac, Paul Pierce and some other players have already visited us and I've been waiting for the time that you, my greatest idol, yourself will visit our country. Hopefully, you'd be able to read this message and consider my most humble request. Again, congratulations and you guys really deserve it. :)

Congratulations my IDOL!!!

You've always been my favorite player. Greatest point guard ever to play the game man. Conrats on that championship. 2 more seasons? :)

 I probably am never gonna

I probably am never gonna get to meet you but i just wanted to tell you that im oneof your biggest fans and also that i started playing basketball because of you. I've been following your all star performances in the league from 2002.from the moment i set my eyes on you. I'm really happy for you that you won the title finally. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than to see you lift the trophy so congrats again.
You will always be an MVP in what ever you do.
Thanks for the memories and highlights!
From a Devotee to my God.

what a journey it has been :)

i find it a little weird that i am not rooting for the best player in the league since i started watching it. I always like the underdogs.

i am a big Jason Kidd fan since i started watching and following the league. as i have said, i just don't feel like rooting for the best player or the most successful. I followed the three J's during Kidd's first tenure with the Mavericks to his trade to Phoenix (that awesome halfcourt alley-oop to McDyess) to this great run with the Nets (two consecutive Finals appearance ain't bad considering the team's roster) to this second run with the Mavs. I never gave up rooting for this man... i just love the way he plays the games. as someone has said before, he has a way of dominating games even without scoring. his strong determination to win is incomparable.

I always wish that Kidd's journey will be blessed with a ring even without the MVP crown (as far as i am concerned he should've won that when the Nets reached the Finals). I always say that the torch was successfully passed from Bob Cousy to John Stockton to Jason Kidd and i always believe in that... as i always believe that Kidd will win it all one day and he did.

I am happy for you, man. and i can't wait to see you back on the court next season.

Winning the NBA championship!

Congratulations!  I have been a HUGE fan of yours for 16 years and I am so happy to see the Mavs win the NBA championship!! You are truly the best point guard to ever play the game. Congratulations and I am so glad you are not retiring!

Congrats!

Congratulations Jason Kidd!
This has truly been one of the most exciting things that has happened to Dallas, thanks to you and your marvelous teammates. You guys are amazing! I hope the Mavs win many more championships :)

NJ ALL DAY

A champion on the mavericks, but forever a NET! Would have liked to have seen KMART get one with you. The 03 Nets team will always be remembered as one of the greatest to ever take the court. Led by Jerzeys finest JKIDD

Idol for life

Hi J-Kidd, you opened my eyes to NBA and basketball. I wasn't interested in basketball before in my life. All I knew was Michael Jordan this, Michael Jordan that. But as I watched you lead the Nets in 2002 when I was 11, it was simply marvelous. Yes, you got swept by the Lakers in that Finals but I thought that at that time, just being in that Finals with the group of guys you had was already an accomplishment. And then the next year after that, you had a better chance of finally getting the ring but again, you came up 2 wins short. I follow all of your games year after year during the regular season and the playoffs and I am always in awe of what you can do in the court. I love the way how you can control the game without even scoring. Because of that, when I play basketball I see to it that I feed my teammates first before scoring. You truly are one of the, if not the, best point guards of all time. Year after year, I would predict that Nets or Mavs would come out on top. Year after year, my heart also breaks and gives me pain that once again, we've come up short of the championship that we've always wanted for you to have. I can only imagine what you felt during all those early playoff exits and having to wait for another year just to be back at that stage where you could alter the ending of the season. Luckily, it has already happened but not without obstacles. You went through Roy and Aldridge, Kobe and Gasol, Westbrook and Durant and of course, Lebron and Wade. I must say it was the hardest path for a championship that you've had or any had for that matter in recent memory. All of them were all-world talents laying in your path to immortality. But after 17 years and all 38 years of your life, you gave it your all. You directed the Mavs' offense masterfully and even defended guys almost half your age and shut them down. After the final buzzer sounded off in Game 6, I was nearly in tears as I watch you finally on the other side of the fence as you shake hands with the Heat and ended the season with a smile. As much as I would like for you to win a championship with you as the star player, the superstar and the finals MVP, just winning this championship in your twilight years is as sweet as if not sweeter than winning the championship back in New Jersey. Congratulations to you, Dirk, Terry, and the rest of the crew. Enjoy and bask in the moment for this is what you've been waiting for for your whole life. Cheers J-Kidd!

all time great!

Hey jason,
Congratulations! You deserve the championship man.  After the heartaches in new jersey, it is good to finally see you raise the trophy.  I dont know if you will still play at the next season, but I still see some clutch basketball in you.  Never was that more evident than in the postseason.  Great job!

This Is the Happiest Ive

This Is the Happiest Ive Ever Been In Sports..

You've earned it!

Jason- from what I've seen, you're a gentleman and an athlete; a true professional. Congratulations!

to the best pg ever

I've been a fan ever since i played in the great florida shootout and i seen that u also played in the same tournament as well. I've followed u from a golden bear with Lamond Murray, to Dallas with JJ(Jim Jackson) and Monster Mash, to Phoenix with Rex Chapman (serious pass for that buzzer beater, real fans know the play) and a young Matrix, to NJ with KMart,KVH and Kittles, back down to Dallas with Dirk, Matrix Reloaded and B.Cardinal (lol, i bet im the only person who gonna shout out Brian Cardinal)

Jason Kidd, i just wanted to say i have mucho respect for your game and that i believe u r the best pg ever. u play the position the right way and always have.
the way i feel i cant put into words. Congrats on the chip sir. Go for the records because they r yours and wont no one ever touch them, ever.
Cheers

Keeping it together

im only 14 but have admired your role in keeping the team going for 7 years. people think because you dont score very high your not that good, but they dont notice your mastering of the pass and just all around good basketball.

congrats!!

Hey Jason,
Congrats on your ring man!  I have been following your career even before you stopped by the Student Learning Center at CAL.  You are a class athlete and person.  I am also very proud I got to tutor you for drop-in writing..it was a pleasure. My kids still can't believe it! Hope you remember me!
Keep showing those "young" guys how to play ball.
Joji Jacob, '94

THIS IS WHAT BEING A KID IS ALL ABOUT!

Jason, you are always in the forefront, and to say that this is your first Championship is an overdue vision that finally has materialized.

I would like to congratulate you on your perseverance within the NBA, and helping to make the Dallas Mavericks #1.  I will be looking forward to seeing you in the same spotlight next year.

CONGRATULATIONS JASON KIDD!  Now, this is what being a 'kid' is all about!

Congratulations on a long overdue win

Congratulations on a well deserved win ! Watching you throughout the years you've become such a great player and one of the best Point Guard I've seen. Can't wait to see you back in action next season. Enjoy the celebrations you earned it !
From all your supporters in New Zealand (:

Congratulations Captain Kidd!

I would like to congratulate you for winning this year's NBA title. The team wouldn't have done this without you. Thanks for making my 10year-kidd-fan period a good one by winning a title. Ever since I started to play basketball, you were my idol and to see you win one, it just makes me so happy.

Good Luck and I wish for more championship seasons like this!

GO MAVS! You have the NUMBER ONE point guard of ALL TIME!

Congrats, champ!

I fell in love with basketball because of Jason Kidd, back in 2001. I'd stay up late (some games ended way past midnight in Brazil) to watch the Nets games and admire his intelligence, game vision, skills and brilliance on court. I've been a huge admirer of his game ever since and in 2009 I was fortunate enough to see him play in Dallas, a dream come true for me and one of the best days of my life. Jason really deserved winning this NBA title for all the hard and excellent work he’s done throughout those 17 years in the league and for the person he is on and off the court, leading and inspiring his teammates. Best PG ever! He’s made a huge impact on the game and I’m happy that he finally got his ring, and that he got it with the Mavs, who played beautifully as a team, as it should be. MFFL! Also, I'm glad he won’t be featured in those “Best players ever who never got a ring” lists anymore, lol. J-Kidd holding the Larry O'Brien trophy is the pure image of happiness and accomplishment. Congrats!!!

Championship

I am so happy for you and the team! I have followed you since your New Jersey Nets days (even driving from Albany down to NJ to see the games!) and folllowed you to Dallas as well.  Watching the Mavericks this was was truly a pleasure, even though there were many challenges throughout the year.  This team embodied true teamwork; I am constantly surprised how many people don't understand that you cannot just slap a few people together and expect them to play like a team.  The Knicks and Heat both went through that this year.  It takes hard work, commitment and a certain work ethic.  Congratulations, Jason, it is a well-deserved honor for you!  You certainly are a unique player who sees the game differently than others do.  Best wishes in the future as well!

Not A 'KIDD' Anymore

WHEW! Champs at last!
I'm from the great city of Dallas. Growing up, sports was EVERYTHING and I looooved MY teams. From The Cowboys to the Dallas Burn, I was beyond loyal. Now when it came the Mavericks, however, it was a bit more personal. In the 'green days', my mother worked for a bank, at which most employees and supervisors held Mavericks season tickets, box seats, courtside-VIP! You name it. The only problem was the lack of support... To be straight up- Dallas was not feelin the losing. It didn't matter to me, my sis, my bro and our many cousins! "Hey kids, ya'll wanna go to a basketball game?" Us: HELL YEAH! Free? The Dallas Mavericks ANNND MAVS MAN?, right?"So, these bankers and coworkers of my mom literally threw AMAZING tickets to us, and with the other 100 fans in '94-'98 we gratefully cheered the MAVS on. Every year good or bad My Mavericks were gonna win the championship. Alas, it was rough cuz my heart was strong for only one point guard-Jason Kidd. We've been married since I was 8! My other hubbys(Modano, Troy, & Pudge) had to step aside because I was in love! Jason Kidd arrived in Dallas and was so exciting to watch. As a fan I always look at a superstar's poise on and off the field/court...Kidd was and is so classy. Although very young,he matured as a player and person. Then,he left. Worst moment in my life, really. Jason went to my schools, visited our neighborhoods, churches...and he was gone. My very first Mavs jersey was an original, green, SIGNED 'JASON KIDD' (#2). When he left I was extremely upset and threw it into a Goodwill Donation Bin in Oak Cliff. I even had a #5 New Jersey Nets ensemble(shoes to hat)..stolen. Now H.S.('00-04)-'twas The Rebirth of the Mavs. Never missed a game! Then my knight in shining armour returns!
Today, I'm 25, avid Dallas Mavericks Fan! Congratulations Mavs & you Jason Kidd,no team-in any sport deserves this more. KIDD, you're oh so classy; your poise-original. MAVS I had to watch Shawn Bradley "play"so ya'll owed Dallas big time! Historic W¡N :-)

So happy in The Bay

I’m a Kidd fan from The Bay. I am so happy for you. I have been following you since you were in high school. You went to elementary school with my little brother and sister. I really wanted you to have that ring. For the past year I have been really active on the Mavs pages, cheering for the team. I am so glad you and the team were able to reach the “BIG” goal.

Congrats Champ!!!

So proud and excited for you and all the Mavs! It has been such a great season and we truly enjoyed the playoffs and finals series =) All along, we were confident and faithful that the victory belonged to the Mavericks. Jason, you had an incredible season and your steadfastness and leadership really shined thru. Congrats, congrats, congrats!!!! Wish we were in Dallas to celebrate with you all! Go Mavs, and go Kidd (and you are a kid, not a fossil! lol!)

Overjoyed!

Congrats from Oklahoma! So happy for you and the rest of the team! Me and my dad cried when Dallas won! Ready see you play again. 2011 Champs! <3 Dallas Mavericks

I Love You!!!

You Are Such A Great Basketball Player, And You Are SOOOOOOOOOO Cute and Sexy,And I Love Your Voice!!!Congratulations On Your Victory Against Heat, I Know You've Been Putting Your Best Effort In At Every Game, And You Came Out Successfully , And im Happy For You. : )

Congrats!!

Congrats JKidd! You may not have gotten MVP when you were supposed to, but the ring surely makes up for it. SJND and the whole East Bay are proud of you!!! Coach LaPorte would be proud!!!

What can I say? CONGRATULATIONS!

SO happy for you, Jason Kidd!!!  I am a pretty big all-around sports fan and I feel the Mavericks' performance during the post-season and especially during the Championship series was truly something to be admired and remembered for the ages.  Such amazing teamwork, and cool performance under pressure.  I AM WOWED by this accomplishment.  And so happy for you, especially, the one and only J-Kidd!  Donna C., Jackson, New Jersey

Jason Kidd fan

Congrats for getting your 1st championship ring! I have always been a fan of your game and you as a person both on and off the court! I am so happy for you, the Mavericks, and your family. I hope one day you get to visit the Philippines and I hope to meet you in person. Congrats again Idol!

Thank You

 Dear Jason,
I've followed you ever since you joined Phoenix. Your passing skills and ability to see the whole court is something I've always tried to incorporate into my game. But as years went by, I found that it's not because of your passing skills that you were wanted on every team. It was because of your leadership and your ability to take over a game without putting numbers on the board. It was because of your true determination and the fact that nothing could shake you no matter how well or poorly you were playing. It was because you could go one-on-one with players much younger than yourself and that you didn't use just your skill to compete but your intelligence. You are a true blueprint for all point guards out there. And now, you are a champion. Congratulations!!!

Congrats, Kidd

Congrats on the win, Jason, you deserved it. Your career has come full-circle and it's only fitting you win with your first team. I was pulling for you in the Finals to finally get your ring, and you got it. When you retire, basketball will truly lose one of the best PGs. Congrats, you should be proud of your accomplishments man.

BELIEVE!

Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment! 24 years I've been waiting for this moment and the MAVS did it! I coach high school girls basketball and we had watch parties for every game and we all attended your last game of the finals in Dallas! It was so exciting to be a part of the rush and EVERYONE is so proud of you guys! We will be there cheering you all on at the parade tomorrow! Anything is possible when you believe!! Congratulations again!

Jason and the Mavs' CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

I've always been a MFFL and just want to congratulate you and the Mavs on a great championship season! Y'all were great in the postseason and you were leading the team on and off the court. And it's just so great that you could win your first championship with the team that drafted you.

CONGRATS MAVS!!!

Congrats Mavericks on all that you've done! No disrespect to Nash, but since he left, you guys have done very well for yourselves! Also, I'm from IN but goin to Dallas for a month so hopefully I get to see the parade! I wish you guys all the best and hope for a repeat!!!

Thank you!

Congratulations! There are very few professional athletes as humble and respectful as you.  You keep your composure and are a fantastic example of poise and professionalism.  I personally thank you for being the kind of player that my 10-year-old son can look up to.  Being a Mavs fan for the entire Dirk Nowitzki era, I was beyond thrilled when you joined up with Dallas.  I have watched every televised game this season and jumped for joy in my living room as you and your Mavs won the championship!  Thank you for your commitment to the game.  You deserve each and every accolade you are now receiving.  To one of the all-time greats: Congrats and God bless!

THE BEST FLOOR GENERAL OF ALL TIME

I remember you balling when I was a kid. You play basketball the right way and now all your hard work has paid off. So happy for you that you finally won it all. You definitely deserve it, the NBA hasn't seen a better floor general, EVER. Repeat.

Long Time Fan

Congratulations on finally achieving your goal! I'm a Nets fan and although a championship wasn't won on your time with us, I appreciate how you turned that franchise around. You'll always be remembered as one of the greatest point guards of all time! Everyone nowadays talk about how great Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, and Derrick Rose are, but as of now your the only who can say I'm an NBA champion! Once again, Congratulations! You deserve it!

Congrats - you deserve it!

I have been following your career since you were a rookie with the Mavs. Thanks for coming back and helping bring us the ring!

I emulate the kind of game

I emulate the kind of game Jason Kidd plays....pass first, shoot second. For me he is the master of the intangibles.... Statistics may not show it but the way he manipulates the game, the way he inspires his teamates, the way he contibutes to a win without scoring a single basket.....thats how a true point guard should play. It's been 17 years and finally you got one. I was with you when the Nets lost to the Lakers... I rememberhow Shaq honored you by telling the whole world after game 4 that you were the real MVP of the finals. I knew that was not what you wanted... I was with you again when the nets lost to the Spurs. Those defeats only made you want even more the trophy and the ring. That is why i understood why you requested a trade. Good thing Mark Cuban knew his basketball. You were the missing piece.... You may be 38..... But it's never too late....Congatulations!!

Congrats

Congratulations!!!  So happy for you and glad you could do it where your career began here in Dallas.  This is what we hoped for back then with the 3 J's.  It took a while, but we'll take it all the same.  Again, Congrats & looking forward to doing it again.

Congrats!

It's a dream come true! You deserved it like nobody else! Congrats and thanks for an amazing season!

CONGRATS FROM NEW

CONGRATS FROM NEW JERSEY.......we miss you
