With the clock ticking in the final seconds of the third quarter and the Mavericks down 72-71, a red-hot Jason Terry got bogged down in a double team by Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar.

Rather than force up a shot himself Jet knew exactly who to give the ball to for a buzzer-beating three.

And Jason Kidd delivered.

Terry swung the ball left to J-Kidd who stepped up and drained a textbook jumpshot from downtown between the outstretched arms of Lamar Odom and Farmar. The ball circled the rim and swished the net as the buzzer sounded to put the Mavs up 74-72 going into the fourth quarter.

The Mavs rode that wave of momentum through the fourth to beat the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers 101-96 for their fifth straight win and fourth straight opponent kept under 100 points.

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle was amazed by J-Kidd’s time-defying shot. As he told Pegasus News:

"That (shot) was huge. We were down one, it’s a low-clock situation and they’re a great defensive team. (Kidd) being able to find an opening, JET (Terry) being able to find him … He knocks in a 28-footer, and coming into that huddle it really helped the spirit," Carlisle said.

BETTER WITH TIME
In the win, No. 2 collected his 19th double-double of the season.

He finished the night with 14 points, his sixth straight game in double figures, 13 assists and seven rebounds in 40 minutes on the hardwood.

He has hit the 40-minute mark four times in the past six games, but No. 2 told ESPN he likes playing big-minute games.

"For some odd reason, the more I play, the more I focus in," Kidd said.

Jason was definitely locked in on Thursday night. He showed off his deft passing ability, a sharpshooter’s touch and even the speedy wheels in leading the fastbreak that some had questioned whether he still had.

But Jason was thunder and lightning on Thursday night and the result was a statement win over the Lakers.

Some say the Mavs-Lakers matchup would make a great playoff series. And although the Mavericks plan to push deep into the playoffs, J-Kidd told Pegasus News he saw this as just another game on the schedule.

"We weren’t looking at it as a measuring stick game. It’s just we’ve been playing some really good basketball of late and we wanted to keep it going."

NEXT UP
J-Kidd and the Mavs hope to keep it going for their sixth straight win against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST and the game can be seen coast-to-coast on ESPN.
