NBA DRAFT

JUNE 29, 1994 After two seasons at California, Jason was selected with the second overall pick in the 1994 draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Glenn Robinson of Purdue was chosen first overall. DALLAS

1994-1996 Jason exploded onto the NBA scene as a rookie, sharing Rookie of the Year honors with Grant Hill while leading the Mavericks to a 23-win improvement. In his second season, he was named a starter in the NBA All-Star game.

PHOENIX

1996-2001 After Dallas traded Jason to Phoenix in December of 1996, he turned the Suns into a contender. Jason made three more All-Star appearances and led Phoenix to the Western Conference Semifinals in 1999-2000. It was with Phoenix, Jason said, where he "learned to win." NEW JERSEY

2001-2008 Much as he had done in Phoenix, Jason transformed the New Jersey Nets into a perennial contender. He was a league MVP candidate in 2001-02, when the Nets reached the NBA Finals, falling to Los Angeles, 4-0. They made the Finals again the next season, losing to San Antonio, 4-2. DALLAS

2008-2012 When free agency arrived in 2008, Jason returned to the team that had drafted him. Teaming up with Dirk Nowitzki, Jason would eventually lead Dallas to a stunning Finals victory and its first ever title in 2011, upsetting the Miami Heat, 4-2. NEW YORK

2012-2013 Jason concluded his career playing a final season with the New York Knicks. Paired with Carmelo Anthony, Jason helped New York win 54 games—a 20-game improvement over the previous year—and led the Knicks to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. THE HALL

2018
