The Dallas Mavericks will have to wait at least one more day before their floor general Jason Kidd returns to the court.

Jason will not be uniform for tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, despite participating in shootaround this morning at the Mavericks’ facility. According to ESPN’s Jeff Caplan, Jason even stayed after practice to get some shots up.

But the Mavericks have opted to play it safe as they face a Friday/Saturday back-to-back. They’ve instead targeted Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings for Jason’s return. Teammate Jason Terry knows Dallas will miss J-Kidd until he gets back, as quoted in The Epoch Times:

"Jason Kidd is our leader," Terry said. "He makes things go."

No. 2 has missed the Mavs’ last three games for precautionary and rehabilitative measures after suffering a lower back injury last Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs.

Head coach Rick Carlisle is hopeful that J-Kidd can suit up for the Mavs in Saturday night’s home showdown with Sacramento.

This weekend’s games will be the team’s sixth series of back-to-back contests of the season and a precursor to a grueling road trip that features road games in Los Angeles versus the Clippers and the Lakers next week.

J-Kidd will be on the bench cheering and coaching tonight as the Mavs square off against the Milwaukee Bucks at home.

When the Bucks came to town last December, they managed to sever a 12-game winning streak that the Mavs had tallied. It might be a different story this year, as the Bucks, at 4-6 on the season, have yet to win a game on the road.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
